Why We Built PoeysiaPRO
Why we built PoeysiaPRO: a native Mac app that turns long videos into short clips while keeping creators in control.
After weeks of building, testing and changing way too many things along the way, PoeysiaPRO is finally public. Seeing something that started as an idea actually ship feels pretty damn good.
PoeysiaPRO is a native Mac app that turns long videos into short clips. You can throw a podcast, interview, talk or basically any long recording at it, and AI goes through the content to find the strongest moments. Instead of spending an hour scrubbing through a timeline looking for the 45 seconds worth posting, you get a selection of clips to start working with.
That was really the original idea behind PoeysiaPRO. I didn’t want to build another tool where you upload a video, press a magic AI button and get 20 supposedly “viral” clips back. AI is great at going through huge amounts of content and spotting interesting parts, but I still want to decide what represents me or my content. So PoeysiaPRO does the boring part first and then hands control back to you.
Once it finds the moments, you can review them, change the framing, edit subtitles, add titles and branding, create covers and export the clips. The whole workflow lives in one app instead of bouncing between an AI tool, an editor, a subtitle tool and whatever else you normally need just to get a short video out.
Why a native Mac app?
This was a pretty deliberate choice. Video files are huge, modern Macs are ridiculously capable machines, and uploading gigabytes of footage to a server just so that server can render it and send it back always felt a little backwards to me.
With PoeysiaPRO, your media stays on your Mac. Editing happens there, rendering happens there and the finished exports stay there too. The app is built for Apple silicon and actually makes use of the hardware you already have sitting in front of you.
There is obviously still an online component when you choose to use online AI, but your entire video doesn’t need to travel through the cloud just because you want to make a clip from it.
Then there was the AI problem
While building this, I ran into another thing that didn’t make much sense to me. I already pay for AI. A lot of the people I’m building PoeysiaPRO for already pay for AI too. They have ChatGPT, Claude or Grok subscriptions, sometimes more than one of them.
Then you sign up for another AI product and pay again for an AI allowance bundled into that subscription.
So I decided to try something different. PoeysiaPRO can use AI you already have. If you’re paying for ChatGPT, Claude or Grok, you can connect that and use it for the AI workload inside PoeysiaPRO. You’re not forced into one provider either, which is important to me because this space changes way too quickly to pretend that one model will always be the best choice.
For people who don’t care about any of that and just want to install the app and have it work, there’s PoeysiaPRO Premium with AI included.
That ended up becoming one of the core ideas behind the product:
Your Mac. Your media. Your choice of AI.
What PoeysiaPRO does today
The current version is centered around the workflow from a finished recording to clips you can actually publish. AI searches through the recording and finds promising moments, you choose the ones you care about, and from there you can turn them into vertical videos.
That includes reframing, subtitles, titles, captions, covers and branding. You can work on multiple clips from the same recording without starting from scratch every time, and when you’re happy with them, your Mac handles the exports locally.
There’s still plenty I want to improve, but I wanted the first public version to solve the complete basic problem instead of being a demo where AI finds a timestamp and leaves you to figure out the remaining 80% yourself.
Where I want to take it
Clips are the first big part of PoeysiaPRO, but I’m more interested in the whole gap between finishing a recording and actually publishing its content.
Finding the moments is one part of that. Editing them is another. Then there are covers, branding, captions, different social platforms, organizing a batch of videos and eventually getting everything published. There’s still an absurd amount of repetitive work between “we recorded a podcast” and “the content is everywhere it should be.”
That’s the direction I want to keep pushing PoeysiaPRO. Not toward an autonomous AI that makes every creative decision for you, but toward a workspace where AI quietly gets rid of more and more of the tedious work around those decisions.
And now comes the slightly scary part: letting people other than me use it.
Building something in private is comfortable because you can always tell yourself that the next change will make it ready. Shipping removes that excuse pretty quickly. People are going to use PoeysiaPRO differently than I expected, find bugs I somehow never encountered and probably hate at least one thing I was convinced was a great idea and that's okay.
PoeysiaPRO is available now for Mac. If you work with podcasts, interviews or other long-form video, I’d love to hear what you think after actually putting a recording through it.
And if something sucks, definitely tell me that too. That’s very much more useful than hearing that everything looks great.
AI does the searching. You do the deciding.
Welcome to PoeysiaPRO 💜
